Inspired by the Natural World

Some of my greatest inspiration is found beyond the studio, in the places I love to explore and the simple treasures I discover along the way. It lives in the animals I share my life with, the landscapes I wander through, the changing coastline, the quiet bush and the natural materials that carry a story of their own.

I have a deep love for the outdoors, whether it’s walking through the bush, exploring the coastline or spending time on the land with my animals. I love the feeling of slowing down, looking a little closer and discovering the small things that might otherwise go unnoticed.

The beach has always held its own kind of magic for me. I love searching for shells, interesting stones, little jewels washed ashore, found feathers and pieces of driftwood shaped by the tides. There’s something special about finding a treasure that has travelled through the world before finding its way into your hands.

I’m equally fascinated by the bush and the stories held within the natural world. The textures of bark, the patterns in leaves, the colours of the earth and the beauty of things weathered by time all draw me in. Finding a feather along a walking track or discovering a crystal tucked among stones can feel like receiving a small gift from nature.

And then there’s wood.

I have a particular love for wood and woodworking, the grain, the character, the imperfections and the incredible beauty hidden within a natural piece of timber. I love the idea of working with materials that already carry their own history, revealing what is there rather than trying to make everything look the same.

I’m drawn to raw, natural materials and the things we can find, gather, shape and create with our own hands. Shells, driftwood, feathers, crystals, timber, stone and other treasures from the earth remind me that creativity doesn’t always begin with a blank canvas. Sometimes it begins with something already beautiful, waiting to be discovered or transformed.

These little discoveries are part of what inspires my creative world. They influence the colours I choose, the materials I’m drawn to and the things I imagine making. For me, creating is also about the joy of exploring, collecting, experimenting and following curiosity wherever it leads.

The natural world reminds me to slow down, stay curious and notice the beauty in the things that are often overlooked. I want my art and handmade creations to carry that same feeling, a sense of connection, discovery and wonder, shaped by the places I love and the treasures I find there.

Alongside my love for the natural world, I have always been drawn to the magic of fairy tales and fantasy. I love anything pink, whimsical and full of wonder, from unicorns, fairies and dragons to wolves, horses and enchanted landscapes. These magical creatures and stories bring a sense of imagination, freedom and possibility into my creative world. They remind me that there is always room for a little more colour, a little more sparkle and a little more magic in everyday life. Through my art and handmade creations, I love bringing those dreams to life and creating pieces that feel as though they have wandered in from a storybook of their own.
